St. John the Apostle and Evangelist (December 27).
He was born in Galilee, the son of Zebedee the fisherman. Along with his brother James the Great, John was called by Jesus to be one of His closest disciples. John witnessed the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor as well as Jesus' agony in the garden of Gethsemani. As the disciple whom Jesus loved, John was entrusted to caring for Mary - "Woman, behold your son, Son behold your mother." And on that first Easter Sunday morning, John ran with Peter to see the empty tomb and believed that Christ was truly risen from the dead.
