A Journey Through Lent
2015 St. Regis Parish
Lenten Program
Monday evenings from 6:15 PM to 7:30 PM

February 23 - "The Confessional Jitters!"
Presenter: Scott Martin,
Master of Theology, D.R.E. at St. John Parish, Perryopolis

Are you nervous before you go into the confessional?
Does your mind go blank?
Do you search for "sins" to tell the Priest?
Let's explore the different facets of the "confessional: experience for the common 'sinful' person!"

March 2 - "Afraid of Strangers?"
Presenter: Rev. Msgr. James T. Gaston,
Pastor of Mother of Sorrows Parish, Murrysville

Evangelization is the complicated word for the ancient Jewish tradition of treating strangers kindly and generously. The Jewish people knew what it was to be a "stranger in a strange land". We, in the modern world, have strangers in our midst who are alienated from the Church and need us to help them reconnect with their faith and with us.
How can we do our part in evangelization?

March 9 - "Lights of Hope!"
Presenter: Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick,
Pastor of St. Sebastian Parish, Belle Vernon

Pope Francis has pointed out to us: "nowadays, everyone, including our young people, fells attracted by the many idols which take the place of God and appear to offer hope: money, success, power, pleasure. Often a growing sense of loneliness and emptiness in the hearts of many people leads them to seek satisfaction in these ephemeral idols. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Let us be lights of hope!" Pope Francis asks us to spread the hope of Christ to all who don't know how or where to seek God!
How can we respond to the Pope's call?

March 16 - "He's not heavy, he's my Brother!"
Presenter: Paul Niemiec,
Director of Counseling Services for Catholic Charities

Violence and suffering makes up a large part of our news reports.
Are you overcome by the weight of the world's problems?
How do we cope with violence and suffering without losing our faith?
How do we cultivate an atmosphere of peace within ourselves, within our families, within our communities, within our world?
